can you give name of someone at AMES who knows about
pioneer 10 picture processing? Some friends at
new york planetarium woulf like to get
the picture (in december) more or less on line or as quickly as possible.

About Michel Sintzoff. He knows a lot about programming languages
but after working on ALGOL68 is looking around for something else.
I would enjoy talking to him a bit, and so might Tony Hoare. If he
is paying for himself then it seems reasonable value. Why not get
him to organize a manual for LISP70 so that people other than the
implementors can find out about it and decide what needs changing
before it is released? We could certainly do with a good interactive
programming language/system here at the lab - the ones we have are
very much inferior to what can be done.

 JOHN,
YOU STILL HAVE EXCELLENT CHANCE AT PAGER. BASICALLY,
WHAT I NEED IS A PLAN WITH DATES AND EVENTS AS TO HOW YOU ARE
GOING TO USE THE PAGER -- INSTALLATION, OTHER HARDWARE CHANGES,
IF ANY, SOFTWARE CHANGES, ETC. I'LL REPLY UPON RECEIPT OF
 SAID PLAN. THANKS,
 STEVE

I have been in communication with RPH, and he offers the following:
What Stanford is going to get is:
 		A KL-10 processor
 			w/ I/O bus adapter
 			w/ Memory bus adapter
 			w/ Cache
No memory, internal or external will be provided.
RPH suggests that we should buy the internal memory for the
KL-10, since DEC claims it will run 20% faster.

Also, according to RPH, Fred Wilhelm says that we will NOT get to keep
the PDP-6. RPH says Wilhelm say to address question to Wilhelm, not
 to John Leng.

Jean-Marie Cadiou would like to visit the Lab
for a week Oct.29-Nov 4. He asks if the Lab can
give him a"per diem" for that week. He has a talk
entitled "Mechanizable Proofs about Parallel Processes"
which he is giving at the SWAT conference and volanteers
 to give here.
 What do you think?

The reasons for getting the bbn pager are:
 1. Allows us to develop a display system suitable for a paging environment.
 2. Allows us to convert our system to paging
 3. Allows us to make modifications to tenex to increase its ability to
    handle heavy system loading.
 4. Eventually, to develop a sucessor to tenex which will be a more suitable
    system for the AI community.

In addition to the pager, we will need some money to pay direct labor for the
 ka-10 mods and pager installation.

(Also, could we buy a more winning ibm channel?)

With help from Fred, I have prepared a summary of processor differences
which may affect conversion to Tenex. See KA.DIF[DOC,REG].
I believe that you should consider retaining Fred to help effect the
 conversion to Tenex.

 Dear John,
Again this morning, the turn table is not working.
I badly need to be able to take pictures of an object rotated
in front of the television camera in a uniform way for the
sake of my thesis research dealing with computer vision.
I wish to formally request that Tom Gafford be assigned to
design, build and interface a driver for the turn table motor
and a means of input for the optical shaft encoder. I believe
this new hardware is justified in view of the continuing failure
of the existing hardware and is fully within the means of
 the project's budget.
